Ice water tastes best when your grandson brings it to you out of love.

Cutting grass is a hot job. I have the utmost respect for those who make their living keeping public and commercial real estate manicured. But it amazes me just how thirsty you can get while riding on a self-propelled machine for an hour.

Just as I realized how parched I was becoming, my grandson ran up to me with a jug of cold ice water. Perfect timing. “Here Mimi, I didn’t want you to get too hot.” What love and respect was in that simple act of kindness. A cool drink of water. Ahhh.

Teaching our children the Word of God is perhaps the most important job we have as parents, grandparents and caregivers. We are blessed with many grandchildren. It never fails to lift my spirit (Spirit) to see how they make the Word of God their own.

“Premium” is always best

What do they call a City Girl who has been transplanted to a very small rural community where the turkeys out-number the residents 100 to one? One happy woman! But when you live in the city, you learn certain things (that’ll be another story) and there are things we do in the country.

When we lived in the city, we had a small red gas can to fill the lawn mower. One can full would last weeks. On God’s Woody Acres, we have a 50 gallon gas can. Comes with a pump and everything! It is 50 times bigger, and gets filled up several times a summer. (Boys and their [motor] toys, i.e., four-wheelers, log splitters, John Deere treasures, etc.) We always get ‘premium’ gas to keep our equipment running smoothly. It usually costs more, but it’s always worth it in the end.

It’s the same way with our relationship to The Father. God wants our first and best, because that’s what he’s going to give us – His very best! God wants quality time with me. He wants me to love others. He wants me to share all that He has given to me… because in all reality, ALL I have is from Him. Without Him, I am nothing, and have nothing.

When I think about all the Grace and Mercy God has given me, it’s not generosity when I give, but sharing.

Luke 18:22 (and so many other great scriptures! Look them up.)

… And there’s something about ‘abiding with the Lord’ that I love. You can’t get much closer than that… and it’s PREMIUM!
John 6:56 –  “He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood abides in Me, and I in him.”

John 12:46 – “I have come as a light into the world, that whoever believes in Me should not abide in darkness.”

John 15:5 – “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.

I can learn even when I’m afraid

I really don’t mind cutting the grass. I could manage pretty well on the riding mower we used to have. I could climb in the saddle, take the reins and we’d giddie up. The new mower scares me to death. It’s wide, loud and doesn’t have reins (steering wheel) like the old one. Today was the day to end my fears and climb on the new buckaroo!

Hubby patiently gave it the once over, and assured me I’d do just fine. We started it up and off I went… and he watched me for 10 minutes to make sure I’d be okay. As he walked away, I saw a small nod of approval.

After 20 or 30 minutes, my numb hands told me I had a death grip on the levers. Once I relaxed, I realized I didn’t have anything to be afraid of, and Hubby was just a shout away. Before I knew it, I was zooming along at full throttle, whipping in and out of trees and such. What had made me so afraid? As I made pass after pass, I began to think about that fear. I remembered I had ‘the mind of Christ’ and ‘with him all things are possible’. If I would have just told myself that in the first place, that first 20 or 30 minutes would have been spent talking to God instead of talking myself out of jumping off at the next turn.
